Wow, awesome compilation, must have taken some time. Might use the elona & tyria maps later(only have like 60% on the elona one, but i'm at 96% in tyria).

There used to be a GIMP tutorial in the guides section - it came out around mid-Factions I think.
Its disappeared for some wierd reason though, dunno why...
EDIT: What the... my map looks exactly like that one, and I'm only at 96.2%...
Unless I've missed an entire explorable area, I have everywhere on the map explored.

I have about 95.9% in Elona but using that tut.. just does not come up with anything. There is one area I know I have not explored that does not even show through to my map.. :/ Could be just my paint shop pro

Once you get to the last 5% the remainder is very rarely all in one explorable. It's more likely to be 50 small areas that you missed. Many people still cut corners, and it's usually these tiny spots that slowly start to fill in once you begin looking a little harder.

I've put these here because people use them, and ask for them every now and then... I did most of my exploring just in game. And for the last 0.3% I did some Full Size map comparisons.

Ah! I remember how to use The GIMP for full map finding. You use what is called Grain Extraction to find little missing pieces. These areas are actually highlighted in some way to let you know where they are. Heres a short version on how to do so:
1. Choose one of the map pics above, remember what size you pick (its very important), and open it. Right-Click > Save Picture As... the picture, and save it as whatever to your desktop - its easier to find there.
2. Open up Guild Wars, if you haven't already. Go into your options (press F11), go to the Graphics tab, and make sure that Full Screen is chosen. Then, set your screen resolution for the game to whatever you chose the picture resolution. (i.e. If you chose the 1280 x 1024 pic, make your resolution for GW 1280 x 1024).
3. Open up the map (press M), press Ctrl + Shift + H to make the icons and letters dissappear, then press Print Screen to take a Screen Shot of the map.
4. Open The GIMP. Choose File > Open, and find the 100% map on your desktop (or where ever you put it). A second GIMP window should open with a picture of the 100% map in it.
5. In that 100% map window, choose File > Open As Layer. Locate you map Screen Shot in the Guild Wars > Screens directory (it should be the last one). Your map should now be covering the 100% map.
6. Press Ctrl + L, or go to Dialogs > Layers to display a third window. In this window there should be a Pull Down menu. In the Pull Down menu, find and select Grain Extraction.
If you followed the steps correctly, you should get a map looking like this:
If your map looks like it isn't on top of the 100% map, make sure that their resolutions are the same, and that they line up corner to corner.
This map is an old Tyria map I've had for awhile, just as an example. It should have a grayed-out type look, with the areas you have left being colored. The cloud cover can be somewhat of a problem, as it can block out some sections of your map. If necessary, take a few pictures of your map at different intervals to get different cloud coverage.

Yes, the new Eye of the North forced map update has made any attempt to compare a previous map to mine in an imaging program virtually impossible for me. Could someone please post the larger GW:EotN map at 1280 by 1024? Also, please specify if it is antialiased or not, and if so, at what level?

great job! from what i have been looking at on the elona one i have been mapping elona and am currently at 90.9% and i discovered a portal to the crystal desrt and i could not go thourgh because the gate gurdain said i do not know the perils of it my character is elona born how do i get access to this part so i can get to 100%?

Have to finish all Tyria quest, or mayabe just ascend not to sure one or the other The portal is in the "The Arid Sea" most South East part for Tyria to enter Elona. Wiki has a nice little blip on it----->Here
